Audra McDonald is unparalleled in the range and variety of her talents as actor and singer. Her record-breaking success includes seven Tony Awards two Grammy Awards and one Emmy Award in 2015 she was named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential individuals and was awarded the National Medal of Arts--America's highest honor for achievement in this field -- from President Barack Obama. Due to her stunning soprano's tone and her unrivaled ability of telling dramatic tales, she has found success in Broadway and at the opera and on television and film. As well as her stage work, McDonald has established a successful career which has a substantial recording and concert career. She performs regularly at the most prestigious venues. She was born into a musical family. McDonald was raised within Fresno California and received her classical training in the New York's Juilliard School. One year after graduation, McDonald received an award for the Tony Award Best Performance for a Lead Actress of Musical at Carousel at Lincoln Center Theater. McDonald was first seen on TV as a drama actor in her role on the Peabody Award winner CBS series Having Our Say - The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years. She went on to co-star alongside Kathy Bates and Victor Garber in the highly acclaimed 1999 television adaptation of Annie and, in 2000, was a frequent guest on the NBC's hit show Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald's first Emmy came for the HBO movie adaptation of the The Pulitzer Prize-winning Wit. The film was directed by Mike Nichols with Emma Thompson as the lead, McDonald then returned to network TV in 2003. The actress starred on Mister Sterling and produced by Emmy Award Winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. Then, in the beginning of 2006, she joined The Bedford Diaries' cast on show on WB called The Bedford Diaries and over the next season she had a recurring role on the NBC television show Kidnapped. McDonald's performance in the HBO production Lady Day At Emerson Bar Restaurant earned the actress a fourth Emmy nomination in the year 2016. The Bite is a drama featuring six episodes that are based on a pandemic, coproduced through Spectrum Originals & CBS Studios. McDonald starred alongside Taylor Schilling & Steven Pasquale. McDonald initially played U.S. lawyer Liz Lawrence (now Liz Reddick), in the CBS Legal action thriller The Good Wife, in 2009. In 2018, she recast that role in The Good Fight for Paramount+ as a regular in the series. The performance earned her three Critics Choice Award Nominations. She is currently appearing as a guest in Julian Fellowes's historical drama The Gilded Age on HBO.
