In America, the early performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely be in the child prodigy category. However, for an Irish girl who was surrounded by gifted parents and extended family, these traits came as a normal. Maureen was welcomed into this cherished sanctuary within Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th 1920. Marguerita Lilburn fitzSimons' mother was a contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based company and was the owner of a portion of "The Shamrock Rovers" an eminent Irish soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons placed 2nd in the group of 6 FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off this gorgeous group. Maureen was an athletic natural and was a fan of tough sporting games. Her ability to perform was the perfect match for her interest in athletics. As a result, she was awarded almost all of the Feis Awards for her dramatic and acting performances in her country of birth. At the age of 14 she enrolled in at the Abbey Theater to follow her goal of studying the classical theater and operatic singing.
